What good mulch actually does
A fresh mulch installation is the single biggest curb-appeal upgrade most homes can make in a single afternoon - but mulch is more than cosmetic. A 2 to 3 inch layer regulates soil temperature, conserves moisture, suppresses weeds, and slowly breaks down to feed soil biology. The wrong mulch, applied too thick or too thin, creates as many problems as it solves. We install at the right depth, keep mulch off plant crowns and tree trunks, and treat beds for weeds before installation so the result lasts.
Our mulch options
We offer triple-shredded hardwood mulch as our standard - it knits together well, holds color, and breaks down at a healthy rate. Dark cocoa is a popular choice for properties that want a richer, near-black look that makes plantings pop. Natural cedar holds its color the longest and brings a lighter, more textured look. During your estimate we'll walk through what fits your home's exterior and existing plantings.
How we install
Every mulch job starts with a bed prep - removing leaves and debris, refreshing the bed edge for a clean line between turf and bed, and treating any active weeds. We then install mulch to a consistent 2 to 3 inch depth, hand-finishing around plants and structures so the result looks professional rather than dumped. Bed edges are crisp, plantings are clear of buildup, and hard surfaces are blown down at the end of the visit.
When and how often
Most properties refresh mulch once per year, typically in spring after cleanup. Higher-visibility front beds may benefit from a second light top-up later in the season to keep color sharp. We can also recommend converting tired or inconsistent rock beds back to mulched beds if that's a better fit for your home.
